It was my 10th birthday and I remember being so hyped because I was getting my first real bike. It was a bottom of the range British made Raleigh Burner BMX, the only semi decent BMX my mother could afford using my local bike shop’s payment plan. I didn’t care about the spec, it looked pretty good and I just wanted to be able to have something semi decent to hit my local skate park with my mates. That year I spent all of my paper round money on bike parts, replacing spoke wheels with skyway tuff II, stock brakes to Dia comp, and lighter pedals and so on. This went on until my stock Raleigh burner was transformed.
This was my first experience in customisations which has lead to a lifelong obsession with all forms of bikes. Throughout my teenage years this was pretty much the process. I could never always afford a top spec brand so I tended to start with a basic model and build it up. Swapping parts with my mates and often resorting in regular visits to my schools art block to bake my DIY resprayed bike frames.
At the age of 16 I did work experience at a Bristol based bike shop; Bike Tech UK. They extended my employment to weekends and this is where I was able to work and learn from professional mechanics and get a better understanding about bikes.
I have always owned a bike in some form and dabbled in various styles like BMX, Downhill, Enduro, and even road biking. But for me there is always something special about taking a bike down to its bare essence, and hitting the city streets on a fixie.
The culture and evolution of bicycles has been incredible. Advancement in technology has enable bikes to become hugely accessible. What you might see on an Olympic velodrome track within a few taps of a button and a large dent in your wallet you can have one delivered to your living room! Online shopping has connected the universe in terms of sourcing parts and bikes from around the world.
I have been reworking and customising bikes for myself and friends for many years, from budget builds to hi end bespoke. I am now introducing FIXIESTREET as a platform to make some of the single speed and fixed geared street bikes I customise available to you.
All the bikes available at FIXIESTREET are one off individual custom builds but can be replicated in various forms to suit the rider!
More will be explained on the PROCESS at the top of this page.
Thanks for checking in.
Keep riding & stay safe...
